Constant Community Volunteer

Lifelong clark county resident

Leah Perkel

Background

I was born and raised in Vancouver, a beautiful city near rivers and parks. Summers were spent enjoying these natural wonders with my family. The strong sense of community made me choose to raise my own family here. My father, a pipefitter in Union Local 290, provided for us as a single-income household. However, the times have changed. My husband and I worked hard jobs together to buy our first home when our family was young. Unfortunately, many Clark County families now struggle to afford to live here.

I believe actions speak louder than words. My commitment to Clark County is reflected in my civic engagement. Here are some areas of where I’ve helped:
I was elected a year ago to the Clark conservation district board as a supervisor. And the elected Auditor. In my role, it’s important to read the agenda and budget report to be prepared for our monthly meetings. Our role is to vote on important issues regarding land, soil, water, and tree canopies.

Clark County Needs to Hear From Its Residents

Community Forums

Community forums held three times a year in Clark County would serve as a vital platform for residents to engage with local government, share their perspectives, and help influence decisions that affect their daily lives. These forums would be instrumental in shaping policies and programs that reflect the community’s needs and priorities.

Making Government Accessible

I would like to make sure that Council hears and responds to the needs of everyday people. Clark County is growing quickly and that growth has to be governed by the people with frequent opportunities to give their input.
